Synopsis
Skrillex, Erykah Badu, The Doors, Pretty Lights, Mark Ronson, Ralph Stanley, The Crystal Method and many others star in The Re:Generation Music Project; a celebration of musical collision and collaboration.
The history of the world is replete with examples of two cultures encountering one another – and going to war over who is ‘right.’ Not so with music. When two musical traditions encounter one another — a new musical tradition is born. Music, more than any other thing we do, has been a force for uniting humanity, allowing us to understand and respect one another’s differences while recognizing our essential sameness. And while musical traditions have been encountering one another since the dawn of time, we are currently enjoying a golden age of musical mashing. Contemporary remixes use as their source material the entirety of the history of music, and span the globe in their influences. They are brilliant, subversive, controversial, and post modern— and most importantly, they are danceable.
The Re:Generation Music Project pairs five DJs with five traditional musicians – and the results turn the tables on the history of music.
