About the Filmmaker

Jacob LaMendola is a New York-based filmmaker with a passion for personal storytelling. His work has been showcased all over the world. In 2009, Jacob directed his first award-winning short film, “STONEY,” which stars character actor Tom Noonan, (“MANHUNTER,” “SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK”), as a man with a hole to hell in his backyard. The film played in over twenty international film festivals. In 2012, Jacob directed “ANOSMIA,” a documentary short about the lives of people with no sense of smell. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was published as an Op-Doc in the New York Times. “ANOSMIA” continues to screen in film festivals and has been featured in National Geographic, Short of the Week, and Vimeo Staff Picks. In 2017, Jacob completed his latest award-winning documentary short, “LONG SHOT.” The film tells the story of Juan Catalan, whose unknowing appearance in outtake footage of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” helped exonerate him of murder charges. The film, which took five years to complete, premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and was released as a Netflix Original Documentary. Jacob continues to search for unique stories and opportunities to explore the art form he’s loved all his life.
