Laura Nix is a director, writer and producer, working in non-fiction and fiction. Laura is currently the 2017 Sundance Institute/Discovery Impact Fellow, and developing the Sundance-supported feature documentary Brainiacs (working title) about teenage scientists from around the globe creating innovative solutions to the world’s climate crisis at the Olympics of High School Science Fairs, ISEF. Laura Nix directed The Yes Men Are Revolting (TIFF 2014, Berlinale 2015), which the Orchard theatrically released in North America, and was broadcast internationally in multiple territories. Previously she directed and produced the documentary The Light In Her Eyes about a Syrian Qur’an school for women that premiered at IDFA, was broadcast on the PBS series POV, Al Jazeera Middle East, and toured the world with Sundance’s Film Forward program. Her other feature directing credits include the comedic melodrama The Politics Of Fur, which played in over 70 festivals internationally, and won multiple awards including the Grand Jury Prize at Outfest, and the feature documentary Whether You Like It Or Not: The Story Of Hedwig, for New Line Cinema. A MacDowell fellow, she has received support from the Bertha Foundation, BritDoc, Cal Humanities, COBO Fund, the Danish Film Institute, and the Sundance Documentary Fund.
