Synopsis
The PS22 chorus of fifth-graders from Staten Island became a YouTube sensation when their teacher started posting videos of them singing on his blog. Their rousing renditions of songs from artists like the Rolling Stones to Adele soon earned them a national legion of fans, as well as the attention of A-list actors and pop stars. This joyous documentary from producer-director Jonathan Kalafer follows the talented and diverse group of kids, led by energetic instructor Gregg Breinberg, as they tackle creative differences, lost voices, and homesickness while prepping for the concert of a lifetime: an appearance at the 2011 Academy Awards ceremony. Throughout, the power of music, as well as the transformative effect of an amazing teacher, shine through.
