About the Filmmaker

Joseph DeRose is an editor and sound designer in the Bay Area and LA. Wrapping up his senior year at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, he is passionate about documentaries and stories related to the scientific and outdoor communities. Recently he served as the editor for one of the four USC thesis films produced each semester. Currently, he is editing a feature on Angela Madsen, who is attempting to be the first paraplegic and oldest woman to complete a solo row of the Pacific Ocean. With a deep love for trail running and environmentalism, he seeks opportunities to use his work to promote conservation and get people stoked about natural places. If he’s not behind a monitor, you can probably find him in the kitchen feeding his sourdough starter or out on the trails somewhere.
