Kyra D Gaunt, PhD
Kyra D. Gaunt, Ph.D. (University at Albany-SUNY) is a leading scholar in Black feminist music studies, with influential contributions to Black girlhood studies, hip-hop feminism, and digital ethnomusicology. She is featured in ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary short "Black Girls Play: The Story of Hand Games," which won the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and was shortlisted for an Oscar nomination. Her award-winning book, The Games Black Girls Play: Learning the Ropes from Double-Dutch to Hip-Hop, and her work continue to shape conversations about gender, race, and Black girlhood in music and culture.
