Boston is the first feature-length documentary film about the world’s most legendary running race – the Boston Marathon. The film chronicles the story of the iconic race from its humble origins 120 years ago, starting with only 15 runners, to the present day and showcases many of the most important moments in the history of the oldest annually contested marathon in the world. Evolving from a working man’s challenge to welcoming foreign athletes and eventually women, Boston is the stage for many firsts paving the way for the modern marathon and mass participatory sports.

Following the tragic events of 2013, the film records the preparations and eventual running of the 118th Boston Marathon one year later in what would become the most meaningful race of all time. Runners and spectators alike joined together, “Boston Strong,” to overcome the fear of the terrible and exhibit the best of the human spirit.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Jon Dunham and produced by Academy Award nominee Megan Williams and executive produced by Academy Award nominee Frank Marshall, Boston is accompanied by composer Jeff Beal’s original score recorded by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and narrated by Boston native Matt Damon.

About The Filmmaker

Jon Dunham is an award-winning filmmaker with a passion for endurance sports and travel. His first feature-length documentary Spirit of the Marathon premiered at the 2007 Chicago International Film Festival where it won the coveted Audience Award. It was subsequently released in more than 400 cinemas across the United States, where it grossed over $1 Million in two days on its way to becoming one of the year’s highest earning theatrically released documentaries. The critically acclaimed film, which has become a cult classic among runners, was followed by Spirit of the Marathon II filmed in Rome in 2012.

Boston narrated by Academy Award winner Matt Damon is Jon’s third feature film, which tells the story of the famed Boston Marathon and the year following the 2013 bombings. The film marks the first time in the legendary race’s history that the complete story has been told on film. It is in current worldwide distribution by Lionsgate on iTunes, Amazon and other digital platforms.

As a cinematographer, Jon has lensed a wide range of documentaries and has traveled extensively filming on every continent. He has a passion for Italy where he has lived since 2011.
